The patterns are free to use

Every pattern on this site can be read and worked by anyone, with no account, no payment and no code to type in. Use them at your kitchen table, in a class, at a craft group, on a train. Nothing here is on loan and nothing expires.

What you may do with what you make

The thing you crochet belongs to you. Keep it, give it away, or sell it — at a market stall, in a shop, on your own website — and keep the money. I do not want a cut, a licence fee or a form filled in, and there is no limit on how many you make.

If you feel like saying where the pattern came from when you sell one, that is kind of you and readers do find their way here that way. It is not a condition.

What you may not do with the words and photos

The written pattern, the round-by-round instructions, the notes and every drawing on these pages are mine. Please do not copy the text onto another site, translate it and post the translation, gather it into a booklet or a paid bundle, put it behind a members-only door, or mirror it anywhere.

Link to the page instead. A link always points at the current version of the page, which is better for whoever you are sending. There is more detail, and how to ask, on using these patterns.

There is no warranty

I write these as carefully as one person can, and I make every one twice before it goes in the basket. Even so, yarn, hooks, tension and hands all differ, and I am capable of a typo. Nothing here is a guarantee that a pattern will work out at your gauge or that a finished piece is fit for any particular purpose.

Count your stitches at the end of each round as you go, the way you would with any pattern. What I cannot do is replace the yarn, or the evening, or the duckling that came out shaped like a potato.

Pages change

I edit patterns from time to time, and sometimes I rewrite a whole section because the first wording was clumsy. Occasionally a pattern comes down altogether. I try to keep addresses working, but I cannot promise that a page will sit at the same address forever.

If you are partway through a make and the page has changed under you, write to me and I will tell you exactly what moved.

Asking for something else

If you want to do something these terms do not cover — a translation, a class handout, a round-up that needs more than a link — just ask. Write to hello@yarngallery.com and tell me what you have in mind. I answer as one person, which is slower than a company and rather more likely to say yes.
