About This Pattern

This little mouse keyring is a one-evening project. It fits in a lap, not a whole table. The head jacket builds up fast, just ten rounds. The ears are quick too, only two rounds each. Then it is small joins: ribbon, hair, blush, keyring. It needs patience more than skill. Good for a gift bag or a bag charm. Good for a quiet hour after dinner.

Before the first stitch

  1. Check you have all four colors: white, red, yellow, black.
  2. Read through the Head Jacket rounds once before starting.
  3. Have your keyring and pliers ready near your hook.

Minutes per piece

  • Head Jacket about 1.5 hours because it has 10 rounds of shaping
  • Ears, ribbon, and hair about 1.5 to 2 hours because of three small fiddly pieces

Other yarns that work

  • cotton, 4-ply Gives crisper stitch definition. Use the same 2.0mm hook.
  • acrylic, DK weight Makes the piece larger overall. Size up your hook slightly to match gauge.

Where it ends up

  • A keyring charm for a backpack or tote.
  • A small gift tucked into a card or box.
  • A shelf piece next to other mini amigurumi.

Joining up

  1. Step 1 Sew on nose and eyes.
  2. Step 2 Place head jacket and apply blush to cheeks.
  3. Step 3 Sew on ears.
  4. Step 4 Glue ribbon and hair on the head.
  5. Step 5 Attach keyring.

Small notes

  • Use a 2.0mm hook for tight, even stitches on a small piece like this.
  • Keep tension firm. Loose stitches show on a head this size.
  • Blush goes on after the head jacket is placed, not before.

Little questions

  • Can I skip the hair tufts?

Yes, the piece still reads as a mouse without them. Just glue the ribbon directly to the head. It simplifies the last step.

  • Why is my head jacket too loose?

Check your hook size first; it should be 2.0mm. Loose jackets usually mean looser tension than the pattern expects.

  • Do I need pliers for the keyring?

Yes, pliers help open and close the keyring loop. It keeps the join secure and neat.

  • What are the small pearls for?

They work well as eyes on a piece this size. Glue them after the blush step, once the face is set.
