About This Pattern
This is a pair of socks, built from the toe up. I like that shape because it lets me try the foot on as I go. The heel flap folds and closes with a few SC stitches, no turning heel math. It needs a quiet stretch of time, a 5 mm hook, and worsted yarn that feels good against skin. Good for a slow evening, or two shorter ones split at the heel.
You can personalize the socks with your favorite yarn colors or ribbing styles for a unique handmade finish.

Before the first stitch
- Check your worsted yarn amount covers two socks, not just one.
- Read through the heel flap rows before you start the toe.
- Have a stitch marker or scrap yarn ready for the spiral foot.
Minutes per piece
- Toe and heel about 45-60 minutes, because of shaping increases and folding the flap
- Foot and ribbing about 3-5 hours, because 14 spiral rounds plus ribbing take steady time
Other yarns that work
- wool blend, worsted weight adds warmth and stretch, keep the same 5 mm hook
- cotton blend, worsted weight gives a firmer, cooler sock, size up the hook slightly for drape
Where it ends up
- Wear around the house with a warm robe on cool mornings.
- Give as a handmade gift, paired with a small treat.
- Keep by the bed for chilly nights, alongside a favorite blanket.
Joining up
- Step 1 Sl st to join, Ch 1 to secure, cut yarn, and weave in all ends.
Small notes
- Keep your HDC tension even through the spiral rounds, or the ankle will flare.
- Move your stitch marker up every round in the foot section, or you will lose your place.
- Use a 5 mm hook throughout for a fabric that stretches but holds its shape.
- Personalize the socks with your favorite yarn colors or ribbing styles for a unique handmade finish.
Little questions
Can I make these socks a different size?
Yes, work the foot rounds until the ankle reaches your desired length. Try the sock on as you go, since it starts at the toe.
How do I close the heel neatly?
Fold the heel flap in half after four rows. Single crochet both sides together, about 5-6 stitches, to seam it shut.
What if I lose track of the spiral rounds?
Keep a marker at the start of each round and move it up every time. Count your 25 stitches occasionally to stay on track.
Can I skip the ribbing rounds?
You can, but the front and back post stitches give the ankle its stretch and grip. Three rounds is enough to keep the sock snug.
